SVIPLA is pleased to have Michelle return as our speaker to review recent Federal Circuit case law on inequitable conduct in patent prosecution matters.

Michelle is of counsel to the Cooley Godward Kronish Litigation department. Michelle is resident in the Palo Alto office and joined the Firm in August 1993. She was a partner of the Firm from January 1997 through April 2000. She now serves as of counsel working with Cooley and teaching at local law schools. Michelle’s technology litigation practice includes patent, copyright, and trade secrets litigation, as well as strategic counseling in those areas for companies in the biomedical equipment, life sciences, electronics, and software fields. She is a lecturer in patent litigation at Stanford Law School and a lecturer at Santa Clara Law School in both patent litigation and in pre-trial litigation techniques. She is a member of Santa Clara’s High Tech Advisory Board (2000-present). Michelle has also served as a lecturer in patent litigation at Hastings. She has lectured on a wide range of both general and IP litigation topics including electronic discovery, expert witnesses, depositions, motion practice, and privilege.

2007 INVENTOR OF THE YEAR AWARD – NOMINATION DEADLINE EXTENDED TO MAY 10

SVIPLA is seeking your submission for the 2007 SVIPLA Inventor of the Year.

Extended deadline for submission is Thursday, May 10.

The SVIPLA Board of Directors will judge the nominees based on their contributions to the technical arts, and then celebrate the achievements of the winner by naming him or her \"Inventor of the Year.\" The award presentation will take place during our regular monthly meeting in June. Location to be announced.

It would also be helpful if you could attach a copy of one or more of the nominee\'s patents via a web link or a PDF file. If necessary, additional information may be requested.

The 2006 Inventor of the Year was Dr. Sehat Sutardja, Chairman, CEO, President and co-founder of Marvell Technology Group Ltd. Dr. Sutardja is an accomplished engineer and entrepreneur; he was the first to have the vision of combining the best existing analog capabilities with cutting edge digital signal capabilities to create mixed signal and DSP System on Chip (SoC) solutions. Dr. Sutardja is an inventor or co-inventor of 65 patents and 120 patent applications.

The 2005 Inventor of the Year was Dr. Patrick S.L. Wong of Alza Corporation. At Alza, Dr. Wong invented and contributed to inventions of pioneering drug delivery systems used by many of us to take over-the-counter medications. At the time of the aware, Dr. Wong held nearly 200 patents with many other applications pending.

The SVIPLA Board of Directors is seeking nominations for Program Chair for the September 2007-June 2008 meeting year.

Nominations are requested no later than May 15.

Job Description - Program Chair: Plan the program topics for the 2006-2007 meeting year (September through May - the June meeting each year is typically devoted to the Inventor of the Year Award); solicit and obtain speakers for the meetings; work with the SVIPLA administrator to coordinate requests by the confirmed speakers on the planned programs. Program Chair is the first position on the revolving SVIPLA board, so applying for this position brings with it the opportunity and obligation to rotate through the Treasurer, Secretary, Vice President and President positions.
