INTRODUCTION TO AND CURRENT ISSUES IN INTERFERENCE PRACTICE — FOCUS OF OCTOBER SVIPLA DINNER MEETING

PRESENTATION: “Introduction to and Current Issues in Interference Practice”

SPEAKER: Charles L. Gholz, partner, Oblon, Spivak, McClelland, Maier & Neustadt

Chico (as he is often referred to) specializes in litigation, particularly patent interferences. Moreover, he has achieved national prominence for his patent interference practice. He has written and lectured widely on patent and intellectual property law, and he was an adjunct professor of patent law at George Mason University Law School. He co-authored Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit: Practice and Procedure (Matthew Bender) and Patent Practice (Patent Resources Institute). He has also appeared as an expert witness in patent litigation. Chico served as a law clerk to the Honorable Giles S. Rich of the United States Court of Customs and Patent Appeals (1970-1972). He was graduated from Columbia Law School in 1968 and received a Master\'s degree in Patent and Trade Regulation Law from George Washington University Law School in 1973, and holds undergraduate degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Chico is a member of the advisory board of the Patent, Trademark, and Copyright Journal., and was former president of the Association of Former Court of Customs and Patent Appeals Law Clerks and Technical Advisors (1978-79), vice-chairman of the Patent, Copyright, and Trademark Section of the District of Columbia Bar Association (1985-86), chairman of the Interference Committee of the AIPLA (1988-90) and chairman of the Amicus Committee of the AIPLA (1994-96).

The SVIPLA board of directors recently voted to increase the dinner meeting fee due to increased meeting costs. In order to pay at the member rate, please bring your dues payment to the meeting if you have not already mailed the renewal or new member application and check. Member rates will be assessed beginning at the October meeting.

PLEASE DO NOT MAIL YOUR CHECK - BRING DINNER PAYMENT TO MEETING ON OCTOBER 20, PAYABLE TO: SVIPLA.

DEADLINE FOR RESERVATION OR CANCELLATION: Noon, October 18. Please make your reservation by the deadline as there are only a few extra spaces allotted at the meeting. The venue may not be able to serve meals beyond the guaranteed number expected for the meeting.
